Spring Violet, Elizabeth Yetter
Every spring, when the trees start to turn green and the daffodils bloom by the roadside, I begin to think about my grandfather and the fairies.

When I was a small child, my grandfather would hand me a tin cup filled with seed for the birds and three sugar cubes to hide for the fairies. For grandpa, the world was a magical place. Now that I have children of my own, I continue my grandfather's tradition of leaving offerings for the fairies.

My daughter, Claudia, has taken her love of fairies one step further by collecting fairy picture books. When I asked her to bring me one book in her collection that is her favorite, she brought me two.

The first book, Faeries by Brian Froud and Alan Lee, is a classic picture book of fairies. In this book you will discover the true history and lore of fairies. Faeries is so well written and researched that you will be certain of the existence of fairies after reading only a few pages.

Each page of Faeries is uniquely illustrated. You may have heard of some of the fairies, but there are a number of fairies that will be completely new to you, such as: Will o' the Wisp, Puck, Jimmy Squarefoot, Redcap, and numerous others.

Faeries is simply a must have book for every household, whether or not you have children.

The second book my daughter brought to me is Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book, also by Brian Froud. In this book, fairies have been squashed in Lady Cottington's journal. This book is simply hilarious, and it's meant to be taken in jest.

There are a number of other fairy books that my daughter loves to read. There are the Rainbow Magic series by Daisy Meadows and the Fairy Realm series by Emily Rodda. When my daughter was younger, she would also read the Pixie Tricks series by Tracey West. All three of these series are excellent books for children who can not get enough of fairies.
