Get a totally new look out of old, boring, or outgrown jeans with Ellen Warwick’s new book for crafty girls.
Injeanuity (ISBN 1553376811), by Ellen Warwick, is an excellent book for craft tweens and teens because it teaches girls the basics, from how to use a stitch ripper to identifying regular and flat-felled seams. There are also tips on how to sew denim on a sewing machine.
The first project section focuses on personalizing or jazzing up a pair of boring jeans. The projects include simple embroidered designs, flip-up cuffs, fabric add-ons to create bell-bottoms, and ribbon or button additions. My two favorite projects from this section involve adding fabric strips to the sides of jeans that have become too snug and replacing the jean's button waistband with a drawstring band.
The second section of projects involves turning old pairs of jeans into new pieces of clothing. For example, learn how to make a wrap skirt out of jean legs, make a halter-top for summer days, and convert an old pair of jeans into a jean skirt.
The last two sections of Injeanuity focus on accessories. If you have a bag full of outgrown jeans, these two sections are perfect for you and your daughter. Make a pair of jean slippers, a pocket purse, a carry-all, wallet, kerchief, and a really cool denim wristband that harkens back to the late 1970s to early 80s. Your daughter will also learn how make denim book covers and, for her bedroom, she can make a bolster and a footstool.
I love this book because it gives me ideas for saving money on clothing by showing me how to increase the length and size of jeans. My daughter, on the other hand, loves this book because it teaches her how to personalize her jeans, and other clothing. Injeanuity is the perfect book for mothers and daughters to use for special weekend projects.
Highly recommended!
