One of the many things parents and childcare workers teach young children are colors. Learning to identify basic colors is a must for entering school. Thankfully, there are a lot of wonderful and beautiful books available to us that aid in teaching basic color concepts.
In A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni, a chameleon goes off and explores all the colors he can change into. This happens to be one of my favorite color books and it makes a great gift for young children.
Color Zoo by Lois Ehler is a bright, eye-catching book that uses vibrant colors and assorted shapes to form various animals. It’s for preschoolers and first graders.
White Rabbit's Color Book by Alan Baker was my son’s favorite book. In this, a rabbit changes color by bathing in bowls of paint. Includes mixing colors.
Colors (Slide 'n Seek) by Chuck Murphy is an adorable book for busy hands. Toddlers get to explore colors and animals associated with each color.
Flip-a-Face: Colors (Flip-a-Face) by SAMi is another board book for busy hands. Toddlers get to change a face and its’ colors.
If you want to make color learning hilariously funny, check out What Color Is Your Underwear? by Sam Lloyd. In it, you’ll get to see what color underwear each animal is wearing.
