An educational game that is perfect for both the home school and public school environment.

The Legend of Landlock (Gamewright, ISBN 1-888439-53-X) is a tile game for ages 8 on up. Each game takes about 15 to 20 minutes to play, and requires either two people or two teams to play.

To play The Legend of Landlock, each player or team needs to build a continuous path or stream out of the tiles. Ponds or islands can also be created for extra points. To attack your opponent, use a bridge tile to undo his pond or island. The gnomes are used facing each other to score points.

What I love about this game is that there are a number of ways to play it. There are the general instructions, as described above, and there are harder guidelines to follow for older children who have already mastered the game. The Legend of Landlock can also be played to teach younger children how to work together by dropping the competitive scoring system and creating continuous streams and paths.

The Legend of Landlock is a strategy game. It teaches and reinforces visual discrimination, spatial relations, thinking ahead, and basic addition for tallying the scores. These skills make this game a great additional activity for any lesson plan involving real and fantasy, addition skills, and basic map skills. A perfect addition to the classroom or home school environment!
