Treachery and Betrayal at Jolly Days is the page turning sequel to The Onts.
In The Onts, by Dan Greenburg, we are left wondering if Wally and Cheyenne will escape the Mandible sisters. On they run through Dripping Fang Forest, meeting a giant slug who liked to suck the feet off of orphans, a human spider who liked to serve cookies, and talking wolves that turn out to be all show and no bite.
In Book Two of the Secrets of Dripping Fang series, we find the twins reaching the safety of the highway. With nowhere else to go, they decide to hitch a ride back to the Jolly Days Orphanage. However, their seemingly simple plan falls astray when the person who picks them up happens to listen to nothing but funeral music and boasts that he has a jarred alien brain locked up in the trunk of the car.
Wally and Cheyenne manage to escape the creepy driver only to find themselves in the swamps of Cincinnati. Will they escape the mucky swamps alive or will the Mandible sisters find them in time for an afternoon snack? And who is that zombie that follows the twins through the swamp, singing "Issy bissy spy clyde uppa waaa spow?"
If you have a child who doesn't like to read, or a reader just beginning chapter books, the Secrets of Dripping Fangs series are definitely worth looking into. Both of my children, ages 9 and 11, love the series and cannot get enough of the bizarre scenarios that author Dan Greenburg dreams up. Highly recommended!
