Composting isn’t just for country folk; it’s for everyone!

Earth Day is just a few short days away. Have you thought about how you can make a positive environment change in your lifestyle? Why not try composting?

There are many ways in which to compost. All you need is a little space and a little extra effort.

Fortunately, there are numerous books available for parents and teachers to share with children about the joys of composting.

Compost, By Gosh! by Michelle Eva Portman (Flower Press, ISBN-10: 0942256166) teaches children ages 4-8 just how fun composting and worms can be.

Compost: Growing Gardens form Your Garbage by Linda Glaser (Millbrook Press, ISBN-10: 0761300309) is also for ages 4-8 and teaches children how garbage gets turned into rich garden soil.

Worms Eat My Garbage: How to Set Up & Maintain a Worm Composting System by Mary Appelhof (Flower Press, ISBN-10: 0942256107) is for older children, ages 9-12. This is an exciting book on setting up a vermicompost bin.

For teachers and home schooling parents, there’s:

Worms Eat Our Garbage: Classroom Activities for a Better Environment by Mary Appelhof (Flower Press, ISBN-10: 0942256050). This book contains over 150 worm-related activities for the classroom. For ages 9-12.

The Worm Cafe, Mid-Scale Vermicomposting of Lunchroom Wastes by Binet Payne (Flower Press, ISBN-10: 0942256115). A great book for schools that have a gardening area.

For young adults, try the following great books:

Easy Composters You Can Build by Nick Noyes (Storey Publishing, ISBN-10: 088266350X). This is great if there is someone who knows basic carpentry in the home who is willing to walk the young adult through the steps of building a family compost.

Let it Rot!: The Gardener's Guide to Composting by Stu Campbell (Storey Publishing, ISBN-10: 1580170234). This is a must-have book for anyone who wants to compost.
