My son is a picky reader. When he first started reading chapter books on his own, I would search and search for books that he might like. I was frustrated. Everything seemed to be either geared towards girls or were written for teenage boys.
One day, while strolling through the local Borders bookstore, I came across a series of books called Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice. I grabbed books one and two off the shelf: The Rising Force by Dave Wolverton and The Dark Rival by Jude Watson (Scholastic Inc.). I took them home and began to read through them. By the end of the second book I was totally hooked. My son read them next. He loved both books and soon we began buying the rest of the books in the series.
Each book in the Jedi Apprentice series gives Star Wars fans a deeper insight into Jedi Knight Qui Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series begins when Obi-Wan is a twelve-year old boy. He is nearing his thirteenth birthday and still no one has chosen him to be a Padawan. Yoda, knowing that Obi-Wan could be a great Jedi, arranges for Obi-Wan and Qui Gon to meet.
Find out how these two memorable Jedi come together and begin their journey on the fight against the dark forces. Learn more about Qui Gon’s past, his true love, and about his first Padawan. For any Star Wars fan, no matter what their age, the Jedi Apprentice is a thrilling and addictive look into the making of a Jedi Knight.
