Seed Bead Necklace Party

One of my favorite group activities when I was a teenager was to have a seed bead party.

When tweens or teens get together they need activities to keep them happily busy and out of trouble. Throwing a seed bead party is one way to do this without any great expense.

What you will need is a lot of colored seed beads. You can purchase plastic seed beads cheaply at any craft store or find a good online supplier.

You will also need bead thread. However, when I was a teenager I simply used either thin fishing line or polyester sewing thread.

Beading needles are essential and cheap. The needles are used to easily gather up the seed beads. The beading needle will also pass through the seed beads without the beads getting stuck on the eye of the needle, as is what often happens when you use regular sewing needles.

Finally, you should buy the cheapest clear nail polish you can find. While the clear nail polish isn't essential to making seed bead necklaces, it serves to hold the finishing knot of the necklace and prevents the knot from unraveling.

Scissors will also be needed. Make sure you have at least two pairs of scissors on hand for the get-together.

When your youngster has her friends over, get out all the supplies and pour the seed beads into bowls. The girls, as well as any boys, will have a great time making simple seed bead necklaces that look hippy cool.
